Did this sometime ago when I was still in my own Country. Made this as a tribute to Glen Keane.  Finally decided to render and post it from my new computer. Still waiting for my Intuos pro which will be delivered in couple of days. Then I can finally start working from home again. Working from office in break time is kind of annoying. I never get enough time to finish my artwork. Plus, I can't even begin to think of doing anything 3D because it would take way too much time. But I do have 21UX Cintiq at office which I find quite fun to work on.

I sit here mesmerized by each glimmer, each glisten of the rock formation, the scales, her hair, the water; oh my god I just don't have any words perfect enough to describe this.

OMG. AMAZING. Every little detail, the shiny texture of the tail, the wetness of the rock, the water, the way the light hits her skin... PERFECTION

That's wonderful work. You should 3D print that digital sculpt. I would buy that as a figure X3
But also the wet surface on the stone and her shiny fish tail is so nice. It looks like real that I want to touch it XD
Anyway, good job ^^b

...Something about Ariel's torso just looks REALLY off to me...it's probably because the proportions the Disney people gave her are unrealistic yet not stylized enough so it looks slightly disturbing in 3D

Yeah. I tried to keep it on model as best as I could. So what you see is how she was in the movie.

Makes sense...I've actually seen this kind of thing before, where a character has a super skinny body type or pose that looks fine in print but when it's rendered to 3D as a plastic or computer model, something is just off (Boobs and butt pose is one that looks REALLY bad)

Other than that thing (which is obviously not your fault) she looks fantastic XD

I would love to have a statue of this. Would you be interested in 3D printing it and painting it for me? If so, do you know what the dimensions would be and how much it would cost? Thanks :)

I don't 3D print myself and since I left everything back in my own Country its not possible for me to paint kits anymore. The really nice 3D prints you see in my gallery were done by Ownage.com. They are pretty expensive though and take way too much time. Especially when you are having them do the paint job as well. Overall, its expensive and time consuming process and not worth the cost if you are just having few figures made.

As for the cost estimate I am guessing it would cost about 800-1000$(more or less) just to have a painted prototype of a decent scale made(6 - 8 inches height). Painted resin copies would cost extra but considerably less if your going for higher quantity. So you see its all about quantity. Which is why I never had anything printed again because it would be a colossal waste of money if only few copies were sold. It only drops to somewhat affordable price if you have at least 50 copies made.

Oh, that's unfortunate. You should buy a 3D printer yourself. Yeah, it will probably be expensive at first, but in the long run it would be much cheaper to print your 3D digital characters yourself. I'd like to use the Zbrush program you use. How can I get it?

I'm drooling all over my computer right now. The lighting is phenomenal. I have to ask though, I feel like I'm seeing the reflection of a sunny cloudy sky on her tale rather than the sunrise or sunset I see in the background. Is that a mistake or on purpose or am I looking at it wrong?

Bit of both. I wanted it to be sunny at first but later decided for a sunset BG. Realized it after I rendered it.

Ah gotchya. Yeah I figured it was something along those lines. With the program that you're using, is that something that you can change, or is it designed in a way where the process would be endlessly complicated? Not to say that it needs to be changed, because it could be one of those things where if you actually notice it, it adds a subtle touch of surrealism to the piece that's actually pretty interesting, but I'm curious about the program. I've used GIMP in the past (not for 3d work of course), and there were times where I found it would be pretty difficult if not impossible to change something I had done.
